Funding Camp Arroyo

Funding Camp Arroyo

It took close to a year to work out all of the details for the Camp Arroyo Master Plan. The Taylor Family Foundation (TTFF) would be responsible for funding the buildout of the dining hall, pool and bath house structure and East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) would fund the construction of the cabins.

Not wanting to take out loans to finance the project, Elaine shifted gears and started a capital fundraising campaign to come up with the needed funds. Although it took time, when something is meant to be, the pieces fall into place. Senators Daniel Boatright and Richard Rainey lobbied for Camp Arroyo, and were able to get the state to designate $4 million for the project. TTFF limited funding to Children’s Hospital, Oakland to raise another $2 million. Finally, in 1999, they broke ground on Camp Arroyo.
